ETERNAL SPOT OF SUNLIGHT

YMPÄRISTÖTAIDETEOS PIKISEEN POLOKUUN | ENVIRONMENTAL ART FOR PIKINEN POLOKU

Olin haaveillut jo pitkään tekeväni ympäristötaideteoksen, mikä perustuisi tavallisen näköiseen valoläikkään, joka kuitenkin olisi aina paikoillaan, ja siksi voisi herättää huomion etenkin silloin kun aurinko ei paista. Toteutin idean kesän 2025 ympäristötaidepolku Pikiseen Polokuun. Klassisen maisemamaalauksen tapaan teos on maalattu öljyvärein, mutta paperille, joka on kiinnitetty vehnäjauholiimalla suoraan puuhun. Lopuksi siihen on lisätty lehtimetallia.

The artwork stems from a love for the dappled sunlight found in forests, and it aims to draw the viewer’s attention to these fleeting patches of light. The exhibition sign is placed at the edge of the woods, and when looking into the forest, one might notice a more static light spot on a single rowan tree—visible even on grey days. This light patch is painted to mimic real sunspots, applied onto the tree’s surface using paper and wheat flour glue. The painting is done in traditional oil paints, with a final touch of gold leaf that reflects light. The piece is subtle, and not every visitor may notice the painted spot—but likely they will find themselves observing light and sun patches in the forest, hopefully even after leaving the site. Or perhaps the viewer has imagined what an eternal spot of sunlight could mean.
